THE FIRST DIGITAL FILM FESTIVAL IN LATIN AMERICA
For the sixth edition film festival district we decided to reinvent its to be the first digital film festival in Latin America. With over 60 films available for all Mexico for free, for 3 weeks. In addition to providing classroom experiences such as seminars, concerts, lectures, free screenings and special guests including director Larry Clark. All these features were also available in digital, via a virtual auditorium where they were broadcast via streaming. All this prompted Distrital to be one of the most important film events in Mexico with great international projection.
To make Distrital a larger and more important festival in Mexico. For the sixth edition we needed to upgrade, refresh and return to being the front runner of film festivals by reinventing the experience of a film festival through new technologies and digital platforms.
There are more film festivals in Mexico all the time, but still it can be difficult to attend one. Lack of time, trouble, and cost transfers makes the experience difficult and complicated for any attendee. How to manage to be leading film festival and re-attract public? We decided to do it through a digital platform : www.distrital.mx
The idea –
In 2016 District was lined up to have its sixth edition and during its past editions had positioned itself as one of the most important festivals in Mexico City, but we wanted to take it further. We needed to reinvent it and propose something different, to be a leading festival on a new account.
Why not take advantage of the possibilities of digital technology and implement it in a film festival? A festival without transfers costs across the city that could reach an audience with impossible schedules, and no exhausted tickets and endless queues.
You could enjoy it from the comfort of your home, whenever you wanted, which was why we decided to make the first digital film festival in Latin America.
How did we do it? –
We established a digital city on our website, www.distrital.mx where you could access our digital venues and enjoy more than 60 films, available throughout Mexico for 3 weeks.
We partnered with the main platforms focused on online film – Cinépolis Klic, Mubi, Scope Festival and Cinema One to be a digital venue of the festival, in addition to having a digital auditorium to streaming talks and seminars.
The great pillar of digital content consumption is on demand. When you want and where you want. From this we thought to establish an online platform that would allow you to be a part of Distrital no matter where you were, or what time it was. All you needed was a computer, smartphone or tablet and internet connection. And so was the first digital film festival in Latin America.
