Date

June 2016

Since 2004, June 21 has been recognized as GO Skateboarding Day to commemorate skating culture throughout the world. Every major city in the world comes together to celebrate one of the most important urban sports. As a huge promoter of skate culture, Nike SB is without a doubt a part of this big celebration every year.

OBJECTIVE –

As one of the world leaders in in skate culture, Nike SB would participate in Go Skate Day with a big event meant to be the core event of this iconic date in Mexico City. In addition, Nike SB will generate buzz and impact on the streets and throughout social media.

Challenge –

In a celebration where many different brands are involved, how do you achieve a memorable event that connects emotionally with Mexican skaters that is also amplified in the media and social networks?

The Idea –

We decided to create an event where the streets and the skaters are the true players, while demonstrating the support and commitment Nike SB has always had to boosting the sport.

The event was completely free of cost, in the newly remodeled Pushin Garden, one of the most traditional spaces and urban essence of the mythical neighborhood, Roma. We installed several skating spots along the garden that are open to anyone who wants to skate, creating a space of coexistence and expression around skating.

HOW WE DID IT? –

We organized a skating event in conjunction with the city government and delegation. We installed a series of spots through out the park, open to anyone who wanted to show off their best tricks.

We also had the presence of the Nike SB Mexico team who connected with all the attendees and challenged them to do their best tricks.

CONCEPT –

Skateboarding lives on the street and is expressed in public spaces, so we decided to make an event that linked all skate lovers and made them the main participants. We created the Go Skateboarding Day Day in and Day Out.

“The only skate event where you could take you skating spot.”

What were the results of the event?

Almost 500 guests

We had the support and participation of more than 1,000 skaters.

Social media impact

We achieved more than 116, 249 impacts just on social media, generating an important conversation.

Appropriation of public space

We gave vitality to a public space by allowing for expression in the streets that is a passion for skateboarding.

Digital amplification

One out of every three attendees made some kind of post about our event, amplifying our message.
