Spotify Podcast Awards

Context
At a time when podcasting was experiencing a boom with more than 40 million listeners in Mexico and 584 million globally, and where Gen Z and Millennials represented 70% of total plays, Spotify graced the night of June 4, 2025, with the first edition of the Spotify Podcast Awards. The event was held at the Auditorio BB in Mexico City and was a ceremony dedicated to podcasts, their creators, and their loyal listeners.
Objective
Challenge

The Idea
The central idea revolved around creating an immersive, high-impact experience that celebrated podcasting culture—an event that would not only present awards but truly offer a space for interaction and celebration. We decided to build on iconic moments, distancing ourselves from the tedious and monotonous nature of traditional award ceremonies to create something dynamic, innovative, and surprising for all guests (from content creators and nominated podcasters to the loyal followers who listen to their favorite podcasts episode by episode). Additionally, fans could follow the event via a live broadcast.
How did we achieve it?
These iconic moments were reflected on the Spotify green carpet, designed as an opportunity for glamour and visibility. The ceremony, which aimed for dynamic hosting, was led by our hosts Lupita Villalobos and Kass Quezada, creators of Las Alucines, one of the most successful podcasts currently in Mexico. We established 10 original and fun categories for listeners, who voted during the two weeks prior to select each winner. Some of these included: Breakthrough Podcast, Comedy Podcast, Horror Podcast, Gossip Podcast, True Crime Podcast, Love Stories Podcast, and the main category, Top of the Top, which awarded the best podcast of the year.
When presenting each category, our hosts helped us create iconic moments (such as seeing them on a mechanical bull on stage) designed to be broadcast online through a partnership with TikTok.
Furthermore, we featured musical performances by Bellakath and Matisse. But it didn’t end there: after the ceremony, we held a cocktail reception that became another iconic moment for networking and celebrating the audio content industry.
