Context

A place to skate in the heart of the city

Mexico City is a vibrant hub for skateboarding worldwide. How could it not have had a skatepark in its heart? Nike SB set out to bring skateboarding to everyone and, together with the Mexico City government and the Historic Center Trust, decided to create a new spot in the city.

And what better day to inaugurate it than June 21, the date when Go Skateboarding Day is celebrated worldwide to commemorate skate culture and history.

Objective

To take advantage of the Go Skateboarding Day celebration as the setting for the opening of the first skatepark in the heart of the city.

Challenge

How could we create a relevant activation with Nike SB that contributes to skate culture and its community in Mexico City?

The Idea

We inaugurated the first skatepark in downtown Mexico City on the ideal date: Go Skateboarding Day.

Nike SB and the Historic Center Trust made the construction of a skatepark in Barrio San Antonio possible, providing an additional space for the skate community in one of the city’s most iconic areas.

Results

Over 1,500 attendees at its inauguration

At the opening, we had the participation of more than 1,500 skateboarding enthusiasts.

Reclaiming public space

We provided skateboarding with a new public space, creating a skatepark for the first time in the city’s central area.

Daily visitors

An average of 200 to 300 skaters visit Barrio San Antonio Skatepark every day.

Media amplification

More than 150 media outlets covered the inauguration and the skatepark’s first days.
