Feelstream

Context
Music is for everyone
In Mexico, there are over 2.5 million deaf or hearing-impaired individuals. This disability is often overlooked in terms of accessibility, especially at large live events such as concerts, music festivals, or theatrical performances, despite Mexico City boasting the world’s largest entertainment agenda.

The Idea
We know that through our ears, we perceive sound waves around us, which are then interpreted by our brain. These waves are produced when a body vibrates rapidly, allowing sound to be transmitted as audio or tactilely. Therefore, the solution lay in modulating vibrations at different frequencies.
How did we achieve it?
By using sound-responsive wearable devices (a vest-backpack, similar to those used in music production and video game testing) that transmit vibrations at different points and intensities, we discovered a way to make people feel the rhythm and low frequencies of music. We transformed the body into a transmitter of waves that the brain cannot process through the ear.

Concept
This is how we created Feelstream: the first deaf-friendly space, featuring tactile devices and Mexican Sign Language (LSM) interpreters within a music festival.
