Context

The first professional women's skate tournament in Mexico

Nike SB recognizes that skateboarding is becoming increasingly popular among women. In its constant quest to open new spaces and provide support for skateboarding, the brand decided to create the Nike Skate Girls Open 2017: the first professional women’s skateboarding tournament in Mexico. Thanks to the synergy between Nike SB and the Mexico City government, the event was held at the Barrio San Antonio Skatepark, a recently constructed facility in one of the most traditional neighborhoods in the city center.

Objective

To open spaces for women's skateboarding and materialize Nike SB's support for Mexican women practicing this sport, leveraging one of the brand's most recent properties: the Barrio San Antonio Skatepark.

Challenge

How can a women's event resonate throughout the entire skateboarding community? How can we spark interest among women who practice this sport?

The Idea

Undoubtedly, the best way to support women’s skateboarding in Mexico was to provide a showcase for talent through a professionally organized tournament, while offering attractive cash prizes to bolster the call for entries and interest in the event.

Girls Skate Open

An event that set the standard for the future of women's skateboarding in Mexico.
